Abstract

This study aims to find out how effective media television in increasing the party electability is. It is also to find out more about the benefits of political advertising that trigger violations of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPU) broadcast regulations. Nowadays, political party advertisements have been a new spectrum to television advertising, especially in the General Election (Pemilu). Political parties are competing to campaign through television advertisements to create and build a good image so that they can achieve the most votes from the public on election day. Political advertising is the same as commercial advertising which the capital resources are very significant either for political figures or parties to campaign through it. It becomes more interesting when the owner of the television is the general chairman of a political party. It is highlighted the question of how effective a television in increasing party electability through political advertising is, and whether the advantages of political advertising trigger violations of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission's broadcast regulations, this research was conducted. The research uses a positivistic paradigm with the survey as a research method. The results of this study reveal that the massive broadcasting of political advertisements has violated campaign broadcast regulations, the effectiveness of political party advertisements on party electability is still relatively low. And the effectiveness of political advertising on party electability is still relatively low in society.
